Nice town of the Perugia province, Spoleto was rested by the inhabitants of the area, the Umbrians, before becoming an important Roman colony.
Spoleto was the capital of a Lombard duchy in the VIIth century AC.
Thereafter, the city preserved its independence until to be annexed into the Papal States in 1354.
