At about 30 kilometres from Turin, the abbey Sacra di San Michele (Saint Michael) was built on a peak at almost 1000 meters high.
Built from the XIth century, the site was already dedicated to the worship of Saint Michael since the Vth century.
This Benedictine monastery was very powerful during several centuries, it was the seat of many dispersed communities, even in France and Spain. After plunderings it was abandoned in 1662.
From the top of the hill, the panorama extend on the plain of the Po river and the Doire valley.
