The construction of the Castel del Monte castle was ordered by Frederic II Hohenstaufen of Swabia in 1240, on the place of an old fortress which was Lombard then Norman.
It is an octagone whose eight towers are 24 m high, with a diameter of 7,80 m.
The castle was registered to the inheritance of UNESCO.
