Ravenna is a town of Emilia-Romagna with about 140.000 inhabitants, it is the most important historical centre of Romagna.
The city is located in the land but is connected to the Adriatic Sea by a navigable channel.
Ravenna was three times capital : first of the Western Roman Empire, then of Ostrogots' Kingdom, and of the Byzantine Empire.
