The lake Trasimene was the place of a crushing victory of Hannibal on the Romans in 217 BC. More than 15000 legionaries perished, trapped by the Carthaginian general on the banks of the lake, this last one lost about 1500 men.
This lake is the fourth largest in Italy, it is surrounded by small hills which offer a peaceful landscape.
